2010.06 'Dream in a moment 'by Saejeen Lee

Out of a dream, a world of subconsciousness, Jieh Kim means to form a self as a dreaming subject as well as an objective on-looker. She goes on to describe it through symbolic objects such as carousels or fish. Whether it is an existent person or a metaphorical object, it is her another self and at the same time an object that shows her will toward Utopia, which has long been dreamt of. Her dominant colors and patterns are an abstract variation of dreams and are borrowed from the image of stained glass. Her persistent quest for the subject of 'dream' and process of formalizing the inner world dynamically lead the spectators into the moment of dreaming. This coming exhibition 'Dream in a Moment' in Hong Kong will be a good opportunity that shows her works and presents a new possibility of modern Korean art.

김지애는“꿈”이라는 무의식의 세계를 두고, 현상을 객관적으로 바라보는 관조자적 입장에서뿐만 아니라 꿈을 꾸는 주체로서의 자아를 동시적으로 형상화하고자 했다. 이는 실재 인물뿐만 아니라 회전목마, 물고기와 같은 상징적인 대상으로도 그려졌는데, 그것이 실존하는 인물이건 혹은 은유적 대상이던 간에 그녀 자신의 또 다른 자아인 동시에 객체로써 오래 전부터 꿈꾸었던 유토피아를 향한 의지의 표현이다. 또한 작품에서 보이는 화려한 색채와 패턴화된 요소들은 꿈이 추상화된 형태로 변주된 것으로써 스테인드글라스에서 그 이미지를 차용하였다. 그러나 끊임없이 이어지는“꿈”이라는 주제의 탐구와 내면의 형상화 과정은 작가의 무의식 속에서만 머무르는 것이 아니라 스스로의 역동성을 가지고 관객을 꿈의 순간으로 인도한다. ● 금번 홍콩에서 열리는 "DREAM IN A MOMENT"전은 작가 김지애의 작업을 총체적으로 소개하는 동시에, 한국 현대미술의 새로운 가능성을 제시하는 좋은 기회가 될 것이다. ■ 신화 갤러리
